2014 Knights Bridge West Block Chardonnay
The 2014 growing season, with warmer temperatures, was perfect for our Estate Knights Bridge West Block Chardonnay. The fruit for this wine was harvested exclusively from Block 8. We allowed the fruit a longer hang time and more sun exposure to help achieve ripeness and the signature flavor profile.
We harvested the grapes on September 11th during the cool morning hours. The fruit was whole-cluster pressed immediately and put down to 100% new French oak to begin fermentation. Temperatures during fermentation were allowed to reach higher levels than usual to encourage richness and complexity in the mid-palate. The malolactic fermentation occurred simultaneously with the primary fermentation and lees stirring began earlier to further enrich the sumptuous flavor profile. Our 2014 West Block was barrel-aged for 14 months and bottled aged for 5 months prior to release. While enjoyable now, this Chardonnay can age gracefully for 5 or more years from vintage date.
