2016 Knights Bridge East Block Chardonnay
We are thrilled to release the first East Block Chardonnay in nearly 10 years. The welcome rains and temperate climate of the 2016 growing season created ideal conditions in the most eastern block of our Chardonnay vineyard. The resulting fruit was so distinctive, expressive, and uniquely aromatic that it deserved a bottling all its own. With the growing conditions of 2016 lending itself to small, intensely flavored berries, this very small production wine is a true reflection of its place of origin.
Grapes for this small production wine were hand-harvested over several early-mornings between September 9 and September 15 in order to bring the coolest fruit into the winery. The grapes were whole cluster pressed and a complete settling of the juice was allowed before it was moved to 100% new French oak barrels for fermentation. The lees were gently stirred every two weeks, and the wine underwent partial malolactic fermentation. After fermentation, the wine continued to age in barrel for 10 months before the wine was bottled.
